The 86-bed home will help tackle the need for care in the community and will provide long-term employment opportunities to the area.

A new care home, Adel Square Care Home, operated by St Mary’s Care Homes, has opened its facility providing residential, dementia and respite care provision in North Leeds.

Facilities include en-suite bedrooms, assisted bathrooms on each floor, communal lounges, a café, activity and games spaces, landscaped gardens and external terraces.

As Healthcare Today reported in December, the 86-bed home will not only support the community, it will also provide long-term employment opportunities to the area.

The home has been designed to create a warm, accessible environment, with dementia-friendly features throughout. Distinct colour schemes and themed areas are used to support orientation, while communal spaces include a café, music lounge and quiet lounges, alongside areas for social activity and relaxation.

“Adel Square reflects our continued commitment to delivering exceptional care, combining a high-quality living environment with compassionate, person-centred support,” said Steven Davis, chief executive of the Bridlington-based group.

“We had a valuable discussion about the growing care needs within the local community and the important role Adel Square will play in meeting that demand,” he added.

Employment opportunities

Leeds has the second-highest number of people diagnosed with dementia of any local authority area in England, according to Polimapper.

At 7,139 as of June last year, Birmingham leads with the highest number of dementia diagnoses, reflecting both its large population and the growing prevalence of dementia within urban areas. It is followed by Leeds with 6,724.

The company emphasises that Adel Square Care Home has also been designed to bring long-term employment opportunities to the area. At full occupancy, the home will support around 80 staff, including care, hospitality, wellbeing and support roles, with recruitment planned to begin later this year.

“With the continuous increase in care needs and the increasing demand for dementia care, new facilities in our local towns are vital to support those who need to access them,” said local MP Katie White.
