The deal adds 28 beds in the northwest of England to Circle’s existing portfolio of 52 hospitals across the country.

Circle Health Group, the UK’s largest independent hospital operator, has acquired Fairfield Independent Hospital, in a deal that will add the 28-bed facility to Circle’s existing portfolio of 52 hospitals across the country.

Financial terms have not been disclosed.

Based in St Helens, Fairfield Independent Hospital has 28 inpatient rooms, 10 outpatient consultation rooms, two surgical theatres and 192 staff and serves patients across Merseyside and Lancashire.

“This agreement with Circle Health Group will ensure a stable and secure future for Fairfield. It will enable our dedicated and talented team to continue the great work that they do,” said Cyril Barratt, chairman of Fairfield Independent Hospital.

Working on integration

In a statement, Circle said that its priorities will be to improve patient access to appointments and enhance the profile of the hospital’s diagnostic and surgical capabilities in addition to outpatient and physiotherapy services.

Circle has an extensive footprint in the region with facilities in Manchester, Rochdale, Huddersfield, Bolton, Blackburn and Lancaster.

Having assumed operational control, Circle Health Group is currently working to integrate the hospital into Circle’s network. While this process is happening, Fairfield Independent Hospital will continue to operate as normal, with no impact to patient services.

Circle Health Group has been the largest private operator in the UK since its acquisition of BMI Healthcare in January 2020.
