The Phoenix Hospital Group launches eye surgery service in Hertfordshire

One Hatfield Hospital has launched a new ophthalmology service in Hertfordshire. Led by consultant ophthalmologist Mfazo Hove, the new service will diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome, blepharitis, floaters and flashes, refractive errors such as short- and long-sightedness, astigmatism, as well as eye infections and injuries.

“Early intervention is vital in preventing avoidable sight loss, and I’m delighted to be leading this new service. Our aim is to provide patients with access to high-quality, personalised care in a modern, comfortable setting,” said Hove.

The £35 million hospital is located on Hatfield Business Park. Facilities include advanced surgical theatres, luxury ensuite bedrooms, fast-track diagnostic services (X-ray, MRI and ultrasound), and specialist rehabilitation physiotherapy.

One Hatfield is one of the Phoenix Hospital Group’s six facilities across Hertfordshire, Essex, and Central London, including One Ashford Hospital, Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford, and three centres in the prestigious Harley Street Health District.

Signature Clinic opens in Liverpool

Signature Clinic, the UK’s largest provider of cosmetic surgery, has opened a new clinic in Liverpool. The new clinic, which has three fully equipped operating and consultation rooms, is led by former NHS breast specialist Anan Ibrahim.

Day case surgeries include face and neck lifts, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), labiaplasty, gynecomastia procedures, liposuction, and more. Additional aesthetic treatments include injectables, skin boosters and skin rejuvenation.

All procedures are performed under local anaesthetic, providing patients with safer, less invasive options and faster recovery times. During surgery, patients can listen to their own personalised music playlists, creating a calm and reassuring environment.

“Our approach is about making cosmetic surgery comfortable, safe and efficient for patients,” explains Ibrahim.

BioGrad to build new facility in Liverpool

UK-based biotech company BioGrad is planning to build a new centre of bio-manufacturing excellence in Liverpool.

The GMP-compliant facility, a manufacturing or storage site that adheres to the Good Manufacturing Practice regulations, will accelerate research into cell and gene therapies. “The Centre of Bio-Manufacturing Excellence development is underway now and is a landmark opportunity for Liverpool and the North of England,” said BioGrad chief executive Natalie Kenny. “It will create high-value jobs, attract new investment and ensure people here have access to advanced therapies.

Work on the new centre, in collaboration with the Sameer Group, which is represented in the UK by EGP UK, will be underway by the end of the year.

Diagnostic imaging upgrades at John Radcliffe Hospital

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) has completed a major upgrade to diagnostic imaging services at John Radcliffe Hospital.

Delivered through a managed equipment service agreement with Ergéa UK, the project included the installation of two systems – a GE Artist Evo MRI scanner and a GE SPECT/CT gamma camera – alongside a full refurbishment of the nuclear medicine department.

The first system enables faster scans, more accurate diagnoses and enhanced patient comfort – particularly for neurological patients where precision and reduced scan times are critical. The second, significantly expands OUH’s diagnostic capabilities, offering precise imaging for oncology and paediatric patients in a brighter, more welcoming environment.

“These new imaging facilities are a fantastic step forward for our patients and staff. They improve both the quality and speed of diagnosis, while creating a more comfortable and efficient experience for everyone using our services,” said OUH’s chief operating officer Felicity Taylor-Drewe.
