Professor Sir Stephen Powis brings his extensive experience in leading national clinical policy as the Group rolls out plans to build a connected clinical-risk intelligence architecture.
Maulin Group has announced the appointment of Professor Sir Stephen Powis to its Global Strategic Advisory Board.
Sir Stephen, who served as National Medical Director of NHS England from 2018 until stepping down earlier this year, will now help steer the Group’s mission to transform clinical risk management and safety across healthcare systems globally.
During his tenure at NHS England, Sir Stephen oversaw clinical quality, patient safety, and performance across one of the world’s largest healthcare systems. He led national clinical policy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and helped strengthen governance, risk management, and clinical standards. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to leverage his deep understanding of contemporary healthcare challenges – including rising demand, workforce pressures, regulatory scrutiny, and mounting operational and indemnity risks.
“Sir Stephen has shaped patient-safety leadership and clinical governance at the highest level in the UK,” said Oliver Maughan, Founder and CEO of Maulin Group. “His commitment to improving outcomes and supporting clinicians aligns directly with the mission at the heart of Maulin Group. We are building an ecosystem designed to eliminate avoidable harm, stabilise costs, and make it easier for providers to deliver safe, advanced care. Sir Stephen’s experience and vision will be instrumental as we scale our impact across the UK and internationally.”
Sir Stephen joins a distinguished Global Strategic Advisory Board composed of senior leaders from across global healthcare. The board supports Maulin Group’s work to help healthcare organisations identify, manage, and prevent clinical risk through a connected ecosystem of consultancy, specialist indemnity, legal defence, and advanced technology.
“Throughout my time in the NHS, I have seen how much opportunity there is to improve safety, reliability and efficiency when clinical risk, data, governance and operational support are properly connected,” said Professor Sir Stephen Powis. “Maulin Group’s integrated model addresses the real challenges healthcare providers face every day. I look forward to supporting the Group’s work to strengthen patient safety and clinical performance at scale.”
