One of the architects of The London Clinic’s recent collaboration with Northwestern Medicine, the career banker has now been appointed chair.
The London Clinic, Britain’s largest independent charitable hospital, has appointed Mike Bussey as chair.
His appointment coincides with the news that Hamish Leslie Melville has stepped down from his eight-year position as chair.
A career banker, Bussey spent 20 years with HSBC Group in Bahrain, Hong Kong, Djibouti, Indonesia, Canada and the UK, followed by ten years as chief executive of Schroders, NM Rothschild and Arbuthnot Latham. Most recently he was a non-executive chair of Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank.
“I am delighted to be taking on the role of chair of The London Clinic, which has a reputation for excellence as true today as it ever has been,” says Bussey.
In November, The London Clinic announced a collaboration with Northwestern Medicine, a non-profit healthcare system affiliated with the Northwestern University in Chicago. The strategic agreement will allow The London Clinic to draw on Northwestern Medicine’s experience in healthcare innovation, technology and research, alongside operational efficiency while the deal will help Northwestern Medicine expand its international reach.
In his previous capacity as a trustee, Bussey was closely involved in the development of that deal.
“I am looking forward to leading the board and our hospital into this exciting chapter alongside our new partner Northwestern Medicine,” he said.
