The new 20-year managed equipment service agreement with the medical technology group will increase diagnostic capabilities and release pressure on the NHS.
Nuffield Health has signed a £200 million, new 20-year deal with medical technology group GE HealthCare to deliver diagnostic services.
The partnership will increase diagnostic capabilities and, says the UK’s largest healthcare charity, it will also unlock capacity to support the NHS to address waiting lists. At the moment almost 20% of NHS diagnostic waiting lists have to wait longer than the government’s six-week target).
“We are committed to playing our part in getting the nation back to better health. With NHS under sustained pressure and waiting lists at critical levels, this major investment will deliver cutting-edge diagnostic technology, helping to deliver faster, more accurate diagnoses, and opening up much-needed capacity to treat more people,” says Nuffield Health chief executive Alex Perry.
The agreement builds on the success of a multi-vendor servicing agreement signed in 2017, in which GE HealthCare managed Nuffield Health’s entire portfolio of technology assets across its network of 37 hospitals and 110 fitness and wellbeing centres.
Through this 20-year managed equipment service agreement, GE HealthCare will take responsibility for the ongoing acquisition, installation, maintenance and staff training for medical technology used by Nuffield Health.
This year, more than 100 devices are scheduled for delivery across Nuffield Health’s national network of hospitals and nearly 800 pieces of equipment are expected to be delivered over the course of the collaboration across imaging, ultrasound, surgery, and X-ray.
The deal is similar to a seven-year strategic partnership that GE HealthCare signed with Sutter Health in California last week.
