The global health technology platform has partnered with the surgical training institute to offer global access to advanced surgical techniques and technologies.

Global health technology platform Proximie has signed a partnership to advance the future of surgical training with surgical training institute IRCAD North America (IRCAD NA). The partnership hopes to create a data-driven connected ecosystem offering global access to advanced surgical techniques and technologies.

Located at The Pearl – Atrium Health’s innovation district in Charlotte, North Carolina – IRCAD NA is a globally recognised surgical training and education centre with hubs in eight countries: Brazil, China, France, India, Lebanon, Rwanda, Taiwan and the US.

Proximie’s platform will enable IRCAD NA to create a connected, data-driven ecosystem where surgical expertise, advanced techniques, innovation in robotics, augmented reality and artificial intelligence are accessible to surgeons worldwide.

“The partnership reinforces the vital role Proximie plays in connecting operating rooms and shows how digital technology can help shape the future of surgical training and patient care,” said Nadine Hachach-Haram, founder and chief executive of Proximie.

Optimum efficiency

Speaking to Healthcare Today in June, Hachach-Haram explained the advantages of Proximie for surgeons.

“[Smart operating rooms] can help us scale expertise by allowing us to train twice as many doctors and nurses in half the time and also virtually connect to any expert who can guide you and give you expertise during a case,” she said.

Proximie will support the transmission, storage and unification of surgical data and knowledge. By allowing surgeons to connect in real-time while capturing and unifying surgical data, the platform will help IRCAD NA advance the quality, depth and pace of surgical training.

Training will focus on minimally invasive techniques across general surgery, cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery and orthopaedic surgery. Simultaneously, Proximie will provide data-driven insight to medical developers and researchers. Captured in real-time from the OR, this data will help developers innovate more quickly and effectively and provide meaningful inputs for research, creating a long-term impact.

IRCAD NA opened its doors in September. The institution says that it will host dozens of courses each year, welcoming thousands of global surgeons and healthcare professionals for advanced training.
