Pharmacy2U, Britain’s largest digital pharmacy, has launched a new app and web platform that combines pharmacy, GP, NHS, vet, health and wellness services in one single platform.
What the company is calling its “new health destination” aims to give patients and those they care for better control of their health. The app is tightly tied into the government’s 10-year plan for the NHS and addresses three of the stated priorities: a move from analogue to digital, hospital to primary care; and cure to prevention.
“Our goal is to put patients back in control of their health, and developing one single, streamlined platform to take the pain out of the process is our answer,” said Pharmacy2U chief executive Kevin Heath.
A single platform
The new platform puts NHS Services, GP online consultations, prescriptions and pet health among others into the hands of the patient and it promises to improve access to diagnosis and treatment for those preferring to do as much of this as possible online.
New features include the ability to track orders, appointments and deliveries in the same place. The company says upcoming features include the ability to check the availability of medicines.
A single platform also makes it easier for pharmacists and doctors to recommend products and services that can improve overall health and well-being, helping to reduce the chances of future illness.
“Technology is the answer to so many of the challenges we face today, but it needs to be developed and deployed with human needs at heart,” said Heath. “The government has clearly indicated that it wants to shift the focus of healthcare from hospital to community, treatment to prevention, and analogue to digital, and I’m pleased that we’re able to contribute to all three of those goals with this new app.”
